General insurance policy

We will cover urgent medical care abroad up to the cost of the same medical care in the Netherlands. The This is the amount you have to pay yourself before you start receiving reimbursement for healthcare. There are two kinds of deductible in the Netherlands — compulsory and voluntary — and the compulsory deductible is set by the government. In 2025, the compulsory deductible is €385. On top of the compulsory deductible, you can also opt for a voluntary deductible of up to €500. The deductible only applies to reimbursements under the general insurance policy. applies to the same healthcare that is also subject to the deductible in the Netherlands. Urgent dental care is only reimbursed under the general insurance policy for children under the age of 18.

In Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus (the Greek part), Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland., you will often not have to pay your healthcare costs upfront if you show your EHIC. You will receive the same reimbursement as residents of the country you are visiting. The reimbursement will not be set off against any outstanding deductible you have in the Netherlands.

If you need medical care while in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Tunisia, or Turkey, the CZ Helpline will arrange a 111 treaty form for you. This form will enable you to get your healthcare reimbursed as per the terms and conditions that apply in the country you are visiting. You do not have to request this form in advance.

Additional insurance

An additional insurance package enables you to get additional reimbursements for urgent medical care abroad when staying there for no longer than one year. You will be reimbursed for the following:

  • Urgent medical care: worldwide 100%
  • Organisational costs incurred by the emergency centre: 100%
  • If you need urgent medical care abroad but cannot get it (in a responsible manner) in the country where you are, you can be transferred to a hospital in your country of residence by ambulance or plane. This is called medically necessary repatriation. This service is available if you cannot get the right medical treatment in the country you are in but you can in your country of residence. Or if the treatment is much more expensive there than in your country of residence. Please note: medically necessary repatriation is covered only if you arrange it through the CZ Helpline. of sick insured persons, arranged through the CZ Helpline: 100%
  • Urgent dental care: €275 per year. If this reimbursement has been used up, dental care costs can also be reimbursed under the additional insurance package. Returned from your stay abroad and need additional dental care in the Netherlands? Take a look at the accident cover for dental care.

The following will not be reimbursed

  • If negative travel advice was issued prior to your departure, such as on account of infectious pathogens or a high-risk situation, you will not be entitled to reimbursement under your additional insurance package if you need healthcare due to these circumstances. Always therefore check the  for your destination before you go.
  • Additional (bank) charges for a payment by you or CZ to or from an account outside the Netherlands.
  • Additional costs due to exchange rate fluctuations. We always reimburse healthcare costs in euros. If the invoice was paid in a foreign currency, your reimbursement may be higher or lower than you expected. If your healthcare provider outside the Netherlands sent their invoice directly to us, you may in some cases receive an invoice from us for the exchange difference.
